چکیده

Static visualizations have analytic and expressive value. However, many interactive tasks cannot be completed using static visualizations. As datasets grow in size and complexity, static visualizations start losing their analytic and expressive power for interactive data exploration. Despite this limitation of static visualizations, there are still many cases where visualizations are limited to being static (e.g., visualizations on presentation slides or posters). We believe in many of these cases, static visualizations will benefit from allowing users to perform interactive tasks on them. Inspired by the introduction of numerous commercial personal augmented reality (AR) devices, we propose an AR solution that allows interactive data exploration of datasets on static visualizations. In particular, we present a prototype system named VisAR that uses the Microsoft Hololens to enable users to complete interactive tasks on static visualizations.

Comprehensible and Interactive Visualizations of GIS Data in Augmented Reality

Most civil engineering tasks require accessing, surveying and modifying geospatial data in the field and referencing this virtual, geospatial information to the real world situation. Augmented Reality (AR) can be a useful tool to create, edit and update geospatial data representing real world artifacts by interacting with the 3D graphical representation of the geospatial data augmented in the u...

Table-Top Spatially-Augmented Reality: Bringing Physical Models to Life with Projected Imagery

Despite the availability of high-quality graphics systems, architects and designers still build scaled physical models of buildings and products. These physical models have many advantages, however they are typically static in structure and surface characteristics. They are inherently lifeless. In contrast, high-quality graphics systems are tremendously flexible, allowing viewers to see alterna...

Interactive Occlusion and Automatic Object Placement for Augmented Reality

We present several techniques for producing two visual and modeling e ects in augmented reality. The rst e ect involves interactively calculating the occlusions between real and virtual objects. The second e ect utilizes a collision detection algorithm to automatically move dynamic virtual objects until they come in contact with static real objects in augmented reality. All of the techniques ut...

Interactive Robot Knowledge Patching using Augmented Reality

We present a novel Augmented Reality (AR) approach, through Microsoft HoloLens, to address the challenging problems of diagnosing, teaching, and patching interpretable knowledge of a robot. A Temporal And-Or graph (T-AOG) of opening bottles is learned from human demonstration and programmed to the robot. This representation yields a hierarchical structure that captures the compositional nature ...
